How to Transfer Fidelity to Firstrade in 2024

Step-by-step instructions on how to move account, stocks, and other assets between Fidelity and Firstrade. How much does a transfer cost and how long does it take.

How to Transfer From Fidelity to Firstrade

If you’re tired of paying commissions on every mutual fund or option trade at Fidelity, you can move your account to Firstrade, which offers $0 commissions on stocks, options, ETFs, and mutual funds. The transfer process is easy if you follow our guide.

Phase 1

Check the potential costs of transferring an account from Fidelity to Firstrade. Fidelity is one of the few brokerages that doesn't charge an ACAT fee for either full or partial transfers, so you’re in luck here. If it did, Firstrade has a promotion to refund any fees, up to $250, you incur when transferring your account.

Phase 2

Open an account at Firstrade. When you’re ready to switch, the first step is to open a Firstrade account. The name on this account must match the name on your Fidelity account. The two accounts also need to be of the same type (for example, Roth IRA, joint account, or trust).

Phase 3

Request an ACAT transfer at Firstrade. Once your Firstrade account is open, it’s time to request the transfer of your Fidelity account. You’ll do this through Firstrade—there’s nothing required on the Fidelity side. Log into your Firstrade account, click on the ‘Accounts’ tab in the upper menu. In the lower menu that appears, select ‘Deposit/Transfer.’ Firstrade’s website will show you several options for moving assets into your account. Choose ‘Account Transfer.’
